One of the driving forces behind our cardiac wellness program at Delafield, Dr. Jafar can frequently be spotted practicing what he preaches-riding his bicycle to work or for pleasure.
Dr. Jafar joined us from the University of Pittsburgh, where he was Assistant Professor of Medicine and Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. His area of expertise lies in complex coronary interventions and is currently Director of Interventional Cardiology at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He is highly regarded as one of the most skilled and busiest interventional cardiologists in New York State, performing more than 1,000 procedures a year. In addition to his clinical expertise, he also directs the Cardiac Research Program at The Heart Center. He has been the lead investigator in more than 25 multicenter clinical trials. Dr. Jafar has also published widely on his own, independent research. As an extension of his vast experience in cardiovascular health, he has helped establish the Lipid Disorders Center. where he is Co-Director, to evaluate and treat complex and inherited blood lipid abnormalities.
As a Colgate University undergraduate, Dr. Jafar then achieved his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. Following residency training at Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio, he took fellowship training in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, one of the nation′s most prestigious cardiovascular centers. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, with subspecialties in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology.
